Welcome to "The Old Gravel Pit Lodges"

Four Rustic Cabins nestled within 30 acres of A Private Nature Reserve.

More and more people are looking to disconnect, reconnect, get off the grid, and escape the stresses of modern life. Switching your iPhone off can be surprisingly liberating.  Life moves fast, and sometimes, we forget to press pause.

Discover the perfect harmony of natural beauty and modern comfort here at The Old Gravel Pit Lodges. Where nature flourishes and memorable moments begin. Immerse yourself in wild tranquility while enjoying the comforts of our thoughtfully designed homes.

Spaciously separated, we offer two homely and rustic cabins, situated on the main fishing lake. Both cabins offer privacy with French doors leading to your veranda, overlooking the lake. Both have private fishing pegs. Ideally, one could rent both cabins to accommodate a larger family gathering.

Mallard is a two-bedroom cabin. Despite our wanting you to ignore the outside world, we understand that many people need the reassurance that they can still work if required, hence we have wi-fi in this two-bedroom home.

Little Grebe is a beautifully designed one-bedroom home with its own verandah, fishing pegs, and privacy. There is no wi-fi in the cabin.

At the other end of the thirty-acre nature reserve, you will find a two-bedroom cabin named Wigeon. Again, this home has wif-fi and a new smart TV. Wigeon is accessible for guests with disabilities. This home sits privately on a smaller lake, has its own private veranda, entrance, and parking. This unique cabin has regular visitors on the lake, including a pair of Herons, kingfishers, and many more species of wildlife.

Hidden in the middle of the reserve, you can find Swift. This cabin tends to be more of a romantic getaway destination, featuring a one-bedroom, four-poster bed with a jacuzzi-style bathtub.

With its long private driveway, you find yourself hidden amongst the trees, completely private and one with nature. The French doors lead onto your veranda, overlooking a small body of water. We like to call this the nursery for all the young.

This is a relaxing and peaceful holiday base. Expanses of glittering, tranquil water abound with fish, wildfowl, and other birds, making it a private and exclusive paradise for visitors staying with us.

The coarse fishing and nature reserve is for the sole use of our visitors. Please note that The Gravel Pits is a nature Reserve, "wild-capture fishing" is a beautiful and rewarding bonus.

Walking paths have been cut into the site to enable you to get into the heart of this wildlife haven, with benches perfectly placed for sketching, photography, or a restful place to watch the many species of woodland and field birds. For dedicated bird watchers, a hide can be located by one of the lakes, and each lodge has a plant and wildlife identification book to help with your observations.

We also recommend you download an app called "Merlin" for correct bird identification. The coarse fishing is around the lakes, which cover approximately 50% of the site, with private fishing platforms situated at each lodge for the most convenient fishing experiences, where you can fish for Rudd, Roach, Tench, Carp, Bream, and Ide.
Whether it’s a quiet getaway for two or a break in good company with friends, there is a lodge with your name on the welcome mat.

Inhabitants include: Foxes, Deer, kingfishers, Hedgehogs, Swans, and cygnets, with occasional sightings of an otter, Herons, and Stoats.

Seasonal Residents include: Canadian Geese, Greylag Geese, Cuckoos

Water views are guaranteed from every lodge.

Rating, 5 stars,·August 2023Wow, what a treat! I felt like not leaving a review, so the place stays quiet for when I want to book it again, but that wouldn't be fair. On the day of arrival, the host messaged me to say we could come in earlier (as the lodge was ready), and on the day of departure, I was told we didn't have to hurry as no one was coming that day- we appreciated it! When we arrived and saw the lodge from outside, I was overcome with happiness, as I love nature and the lodge itself with all the beautiful plants around it, looked idyllic. Inside, the lodge was spacious, very clean, and super-comfortable. There is not one thing I could fault about this place and I'm hoping to visit it soon again.

Rating, 5 stars,·July 2023If you’re looking for a secluded peaceful getaway away from the city then this is the place. A lovely cabin tucked away. Lots of land to explore and fish. Caught a 6lb Chub and a 10lb Carp. Francesca was a great host; very friendly and provided great advice on the surrounding areas. If you’re looking for a place to sit on social media, this is not the place for you. This is the place to unwind and enjoy nature! The cabin was stocked with the basics, including cleaning equipment. Would return and recommend it!
